The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA), participated in the ad hoc committee session to prepare the draft text of the rules of procedure for the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime. The session was held January 26-30 at the UN venue in Vienna, Austria.
During the meeting, the Committee’s work was completed following the adoption of the UN Convention against Cybercrime. Discussions focused on drafting the Rules of Procedure for the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention, which represents the first multilateral treaty on combating cybercrime under the UN framework in over twenty years and the first legally binding international agreement to combat cybercrime.
In recent months, the Kingdom, in its capacity as chair of the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council’s cyber diplomacy committee, worked with all Arab countries to reach a unified Arab position regarding the draft rules of procedure. The effort reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting international initiatives intended to strengthen security and stability in cyberspace and to consolidate international cooperation in combating cybercrime.
NCA is the national entity in charge of cybersecurity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and serves as the national authority and reference in all its affairs. It is the official representative of Saudi Arabia in regional and international forums related to cybersecurity. NCA is also responsible for strengthening cybersecurity, protecting vital national interests and critical infrastructure, and overseeing the implementation of the Kingdom’s international obligations in this field.
